If you’re anything like me – always looking for festive ways to make your pad a little more luxurious on a budget – chances are you’re hip to the brilliance of a well-placed candle or two to add ambiance to your home, or to bring the familiar scent of home into any drab hotel room. Parisian candle design company Bougies la Francaise (even pronouncing their name makes you feel glam!) has pulled out all the stops this season with their Autumn/Winter collection.

My personal favourite is Insolite. A little bit goth, a little bit Tudor, and decidedly dark and sophisticated, this collection has been drawing home decor inspiration for my inner antiquarian.

Place these multi-coloured candlesticks in a romantically over-the-top candelabra for a boudoir dripping with opulence. And, the ornately collaged tin the candles come packaged in doubles as a pretty bank to store all those pretty pennies you’ll save (single hand-carved candles start at £17 and candlestick sets range to £42).

But if you’re wiser than me and are already thinking of your holiday shopping, the Sam collection, comprised of kitschy hand-carved pooches in funky fluoro hues, is dog-gone perfect for an affordable  living room gift, while gilded-effect crustaceans in the Hybride collection will lend some quirky and versatile elegance to even the most traditional dining table.  Claim the handicraft of this wax menagerie as your own and get extra gift-giving brownie points (don’t worry, we won’t tell!).

Stay tuned for these cool little candles available straight through mydeco, but for now, you can snatch them up at Selfridges, the Conran Shop, and Crouch End boutique Lucy Blackhouse.
