The film biopic of fashion legend Coco Chanel hits the big screen this Friday. But why settle for watching Audrey Tautou recline on Chanel’s sumptuous deep-seated quilted sofa with chandeliers tinkling above her pretty head when you can do the same?

Okay, so living in Coco Chanel style may be a bit pricey – she lived at the Ritz in Paris after all – but the price tag goes with the furnishings. Rare items from Christies and Sotheby’s, plus a walk-in wardrobe and  jacuzzi, have helped to recreat a two bedroom suite in honour of the 20th century fashion icon. Chanel made the Ritz her home for over 35 years. Just down the road, at 31 Rue Cambon, a four-storey building contained her actual apartment although she preferred to use its three-room layout for interviewing and working. The other three floors were home to the Chanel store, haute couture dressing rooms and workshop too.

Recreate Chanel’s glitz and glamour with an ornate solid mahogany gilt Victorian sofa (£649) from Amazon, above, or be experimental and daring, like she was, with a gorgeous bright patchwork upholstered Victorian chaise (£4,000) from Squint, below, a design darling of mydeco’s design boutique.
